SF Urban Forest http://www.fuf.net/calendar_news/index.html

SB 754 -the Senate Bill that protects California's trees
older than the state herself- passed out of committee Tuesday,
further up the ladder. It will soon find itself before the 'House of
Pain',- the Assembly Floor! One percent of our trees are affected,
because there are only 3% left, and 1% of those are on private land.
This shows the urgency of the plight of the remaining Old-Growth
forest! Pierce Brosnan spoke powerfully for the trees just prior to
the vote, Susan Moloney http://www.ancienttrees.org continued to be a
driving force for the trees she loves, and the Green Mayor Pro-tem
of Santa Monica Kevin Mckeown http://www.mckeown.net lobbied hard
successfully behined the scenes. But mostly, this is a victory for
the children in the trees http://www.wesavetrees.org , who's gallant
struggle plays out day after day, deep in the forest!

Senate Moves to OK Pentagon Domestic Spy Operations
Newsweek is reporting that the Senate Intelligence Committee has given its
backing to a new bill that would vastly expand the Pentagon's ability to
conduct domestic spy operations and to be able to recruit citizens as
informants. The bill would exempt the Pentagon from the Privacy Act which
was passed in the 1970s after it was revealed that Army intelligence agents
were spying on anti-war protesters. http://www.m27coalition.org

Harvey (Black Cock Records, Ministry of Sound, Tonka Hi Fi) is a
legend. His sound exists somewhere between the "old-school" style of
house/techno mixing (ala Derrick Carter) with a peculiar funkiness
which explains his migration to Los Angeles and the everpresent
inclusion of rock cuts, riffs and rhythms (which has now become trendy
in the "mash up" scene with acts like 2ManyDJs, etc.) His credits
include among other "firsts", the "first house record." The list goes
on, so just come down. It's gonna be a lot of fun!
It's true, June 19th is the 1 Year anniversary of the opening of Rx,
so we're celebrating with a sake toast at the stroke of midnight, but
that's only the beginning... stay tuned for next week's Official One

# Thu June 24 7 pm Film: The End of Suburbia, Oil Depletion and
the Collapse of the American Dream
Since World War II North Americans have invested
much of their newfound wealth in suburbia. It has promised a sense of
space, affordability, family life and upward mobility. As the
population of suburban sprawl has exploded in the past 50 years, so
too the suburban way of life has become embedded in the American
consciousness. Suburbia, and all it promises, has become the American
Dream. But as we enter the 21st century, serious questions are
beginning to emerge about the sustainability of this way of life.
With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia
explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet
approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins
to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of
fossil fuels are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue
in this documentary. The consequences of inaction in the face of this
global crisis are enormous. What does Oil Peak mean for North
America? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the
populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are
today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what
can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of
Suburbia ? Directed by Gregory Greene. Produced by Barry Silverthorn.
Hosted by Barrie Zwicker. Featuring James Howard Kunstler, Peter
Calthorpe, Michael Klare, Richard Heinberg, Matthew Simmons, Mike
Ruppert, Julian Darley, Colin Campbell, Kenneth Deffeyes, Ali Samsam
Bakhtiari and Steve Andrews. $5 - $15 sliding scale, notaflof

# 9-11 Awareness Rally: We Seek the Truth
The Conscious Sound Collective, sorely disappointed by the Kean Commission's failure to truly investigate the 9-11 attacks, hosts an evening of presentations, discussion, film, performance, spoken word and music dedicated to raising awareness of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001.
Presenters Joyce Lynn and Ken Jenkins will elucidate the negligence of the Kean Commission, as well as deconstruct the definition of "conspiracy theory."
Performances from Artist/Activists: Abai Roots, West Oakland. Chris Sia, Infinite Kaos. Diana Rosa Trimble, High Performance Poet Priestess. Mark Deutsch, bazantar.com.
Join us for an engaging evening as we explore the nexus of politics, art and activism.
Free to the public. Donations gratefully welcomed.

# 911 Awareness Rally... Sunday, June 27, 7pm-midnight at Infinite
Kaos. Free to the public. Freedom for the public. WE SEEK THE TRUTH
The Kean Commission is wrapping it up, all neat and tidy, in a
foul-smelling package that smells like the corpse of JFK. Yeah, it's
another Warren Commission all over again, you know the one that
determined that the big guy was shot by a single gunmen from the back...
If you want to know why these people aren't asking the really important
questions, come check out the next Conscious Sound Collective's event
"9-11: We Seek the Truth."
Featuring Presenters Joyce Lynn & Ken Jenkins. Joyce & Ken will tell
you why the Kean Commission is the "Coverup Commission" and deconstruct
the term "conspiracy theory." CSC's Chris Sia will tell you what to
expect if another "terrorist" attack occurs on American soil. And it
isn't pretty.
Special Guest Artists: Abai Roots, West Oakland, lays it down. Karl
Gillick and Chris Sia tied up in ropes as the Iraqi government is handed
over to...? High Performance Priestess and Holy Bitch Diana Rosa
Trimble channels her epic "The Tower." And Jenesa, the artist formerly
known as Suga, MC Prophetess of the Highest sings our blues away. DJ
IKarus lays down the revolutionary beats.
7pm film: "911 International Inquiry: Phase One SF"
8pm: Presentations: Joyce Lynn & Ken Jenkins
9pm: Community Dialogue, moderated by Chris Sia
